Iceman's 1978 VW Scirocco GTI


I first purchased this car ( completely stock ) in 1988. I drove around for about 2 years before taking it completely apart and rebuilding it. It got a completly new interior and custom paint. Then came the new suspension and brakes. The transmission was rebuilt with custom gears and synchros. The engine was replaced with a 1984 GTI block. The intake manafold was ported and polished, and an european exaust system fitted. Unfortunatly, the engine modifications moved it out of the ITB catagory, and even at 130 hp it couldn't keep up with the GTB class cars. The car did take 2 second place trophies and 1 first place trophy in the show car class and was shown in VW TRENDS magazine ! Now the car spends its time in retirement cruising the streets around the Bay Area.
